Thalassa Cottage is a short walk from two of Wellfleet’s bay-side beaches.
The closest beach is Powers Landing, which is half a mile from the house. This is a quiet beach popular with the locals. It has a small parking lot. Note that you need a beach sticker to park in this lot! (More on that below.)
The popular Mayo Beach is one mile from the house. This is one of Wellfleet’s “hot spots,” with a cluster of shops and restaurants nearby. Parking is free, and you don’t need a beach sticker.
Both these beaches are better at high tide. Conveniently, we have a tide clock on the shelves in the common room, so you’ll know when it’s high!
There are lots of other beaches in the area as well, including pond beaches and ocean-side beaches. To park at many of these beaches, you will need a beach sticker. To get one, go to the Beach Office at 255 Commercial St (on the Town Pier, near Mayo Beach). It’s open from 9 am to 4 pm during the summer. You will need your vehicle registration and a proof-of-stay letter from us. Fees for the stickers are $55 for 3 days, $90 for 7 days, $170 for 14 days, or $300 for the full summer.
For even more beaches, visit the Cape Cod National Seashore park. You don’t need a Wellfleet beach sticker to park here, but you will need to pay a fee for parking. The fee is $20 per day per vehicle, which gives you access to all six beaches in the park. If you are thinking of visiting more than three times during your stay, get an annual pass, which is $60 per vehicle.
